Well, I've had my carpet for 19 years now, and frankly, it's starting to look highly-lived-on. Plus the kitchen and bath linoleum are...well...you don't wanna know!(ie, worn out to a frazzle and carpet shampooed to the point of wrinkling---the carpet lost it's luster a long time ago and I'm totally sick of the linoleum.)
I got the idea to change my floors to hardwood and tile. I'm putting tile in the kitchen, my 1.5 upstairs bathrooms, and right at my front door entrance. Hardwood will go in the living/dining room, den, and hallway. (I already have hardwood under my carpet in each of the 3 bedrooms, so will have that peeled off and re-finish that hardwood to match the new stuff. The old hardwood is in fine shape, so it should refinish well.)
I found a fellow who lays both tile and hardwood at a very reasonable price. He suggested I look at Surplus Sales at Paducah to buy the hardwood and tile, as they have good prices. I went there last night and bought the hardwood and tile and grout for a total cost of around $3250. He will buy the rest of the supplies and lay it all, for about $2050. (He charged 1.5/ft to lay the hardwood and 3.50/ft to lay the tile and I've seen his work, it is very good)
He does not start on my house until May 1 and anticipates he'll have it all done in about 5 days or a little less. (quicker than I thought). I'll report back and hopefully have some pics to post after it's done.
